British Metal Bands Get Together To Help the Live Industry
It’s no secret that during the last year, a lot of people who are essential when it comes to putting on live shows have been treated badly by the government. Many self-employed stagehands, roadies, sound engineers, lighting techs, and venue staff among others have been overlooked in the COVID response.
Music producer (and member of the legendary Kill II This) Mark Mynett has put together UK Metal Merger, a project containing 18 UK musicians from bands such as Cradle of Filth, My Dying Bride, Iced Earth, Winterfylleth, Xentrix, Divine Chaos, Krysthla, Pythia, and Kill II This themselves. The musicians worked remotely writing and performing an epic track entitled In Solitude, with a mission to highlight the shattering impact the COVID restrictions and lack of support has caused on their livelihoods.
UK Metal Merger’s call-to-arms is to ask for everyone to share the video, track and message and ask those who are able to, to donate to the UK Metal Merger Stagehand Crew Relief Fund. It doesn’t have to be much but it all counts. You will be helping to avoid a catastrophic loss of skills, knowledge and experience in the live music industry. Without these people, the live events industry will not return in the way you want. Check out the registered charity Stagehand for more information on the plight these essential workers. This does not just affect the metal scene, but the whole live scene.
