Glasgow-based Scottish artist Jonny Jack has certainly given his all to his new single, pardon the pun.
‘Give It All’ is a re-release coming back from 2019. It’s 3 minutes of energised pop that certainly doesn’t shy away from the light.
A tale of inspiration, the singer-songwriter calls for people to recognise their potential to achieve what they were truly born to do, you just have to put the work in. I think it’s difficult to make an assumption that everyone is just in the position to do what they want, but I certainly admire the thought.
Opening with a pairing of Jack’s vocals with a booming bassline, a groovy intro sets you right into the track. From then on, bursts of soulful pop come right out to greet you. The Glaswegian artists’ impressive set of pipes really make the feel-good essence of the track come to life. You can’t help but tap your feet along.
Shining brass backing to the tune adds an element of elevation. It turns a standard acoustic pop track into a bold and bolstering song that makes you want to move.
I hope this isn’t taken as an insult, but this track weirdly reminded me of something that could be from an early-2000s Hollywood rom-com. I can’t quite pin down what it is, maybe it’s the buoyant and lively nature of the track, but I certainly mean it in a positive way.
In line with the message, Jack seems like he is hoping to fulfill his potential on the music scene. It definitely could be worse too, receiving high praise from some high places. Tom Robinson, from BBC Introducing, described his vocals as ‘absolutely irresistible’.
Whether it’s a song I could listen to over and over again I’m not so sure. However, the positivity that shines from the go is something everyone could benefit from.
Looking into the future I think Jonny Jack could definitely go further. His combination of groovy instrumentation with impassioned vocals gives him the ingredients to shoot right up in the music world. If you want to know what I’m on about, then give ‘Give It All‘ a listen.
