Review : The Mystery Fields – Golden

Golden is the debut track from Mansfield trio The Mystery Fields. This attempt from has clear hints of Britpop, and although it doesn’t break new ground it is undeniably a fantastic debut track.

The real element that stands in out in Golden is the successful use of minimalist guitar with a real electronic edge shining through from the background, almost comparable to a stripped down Kasabian.

In places you find yourself pushing the sound on, hoping for the killer chorus that all great Britpop tracks have, and although it is found wanting in this department it is commendable for its unwavering commitment in attempting to find its own niche within this already well-trodden genre.

There is no question that this has the sound of a debut track, still in parts searching for where it should be going. This in a way has the feeling of a yardstick, held out as they feel their way into the industry.

In short, this is good indie of brave sonic mixture of sounds, and although it’s someway off being a great track, it’s certainly not a bad effort first up from these Nottinghamshire boys.
