Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide to become an artist?
I’ve always been obsessed with singing and have always just been drawn to it.
Whats one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
Who would you compare your sound to? Thats’s one I’m pretty sure every artist has been asked. I get that people will naturally draw comparisons but it can be kinda weird haha.
What is the unsigned scene in Manchester like at the minute?
Atm with covid it’s been hard with no gigs happening but in general Manchester is such a sweet place for an artist to grow. When I first moved up from North London 2 years ago I instantly loved how creative it is and how easy it is to network and meet other artists.
What good bands are coming out of Manchester at the minute?
Larkins are great got some really catchy tunes.
Who is inspiring you at the minute?
I love Bea Miller, she’s got a real sassy quality to her lyrics but they’re also painfully honest, you can tell it comes from the gut.
If your fans could remember one thing about you what would it be?
On a MCD’S order – my go to is FILET O FISH. Aint even sorry. Would literally be my first thing on a rider.
What useless talent do you have/ party trick?
I can make a really loud ‘clock’ noise with my mouth. It’s actually pretty impressive ngl, totally useless tho
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
The first gig I did in Manchester was at Castle Hotel it was a pretty intimate one and the crowd were really lively and up for a good time so it was just a really vibey night!
Don’t think I’ve had one, I did do a gig once in Chelsea at an outside event tho where people got really smashed and started asking me to sing covers of their favourite songs. Felt very ‘karaoke’ was well awkward lol
Tell us a funny story from backstage?
Not really got one lol
Name a four piece band made up of legends – who would be in it? (drummer, bass, lead singer etc)
I dunno but If I was gonna pick an artist I’d love to collab with it’d be LORDE – she’s written some absolute bangers and I just love how she’s so effortlessly cool. Her lyrics are so clever and she manages to say more with less which is an art.
What advice would you give someone going into the music industry?
ISSA LONG GAME. Be prepared to fail many times. Often the ones that get there are the ones that have grafted for years and not given up too easily.
How do you think the government have looked after the the night time economy / live gig circuit?
I know there’s been conversations about funding but in general it’s been impossible especially during LOCKDOWN to continue live gigs n most of em have been online. It’s a tricky time so I don’t blame em but I do feel like the arts get forgotten or pushed aside far too often when it’s the one thing people turn to in times like these. Kinda ironic.
Right now, whats pissing you of the most? (Cant say the virus 🙂
Conspiracy theorist junkies. Had so many people believing fake news surrounding COVID and trying to convince me. It’s the worst.
Whats your favourite song to play live and why?
My favourite song to play live is ‘growing pains’ everyone just loves it and it’s just really fun to sing.
I hear you have a new single brewing, what can you tell us about it?
It actually dropped a few weeks ago. It’s called HYPE. I wrote it during lockdown, it was inspired by the realisation that I was glued to my phone 24/7. I noticed it was the first thing I touched in the morning and the last before bed which kinda freaked me out. It’s an introspective observation into the selfie-obsessed generation’s dependence on technology. It’s not me criticising tho it’s just about being more aware of how it can affect us in a negative way by buying into our own ‘hype’.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
I’m in the process of finishing off the next single which is gonna be a real BOP. So stay tuned x
Thanks for doing us today folks, all the best and keep in touch.
