RGM Introducing – Hilton

Hiya thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

What made you decide to become a soloist?

Thanks for having me! I’ve been in several bands in the past, and have made some great memories during those times. Eventually, however I realized the only person I can truly count on is myself…sometimes with a band it can be a ‘too many cooks in the kitchen situation, members are constantly joining, leaving, growing in different directions creatively…it can be a lot haha

How is LA right now we hear its had a really bad time of it in lockdown?

LA is finally going sort of back to normal. Which is good and bad. It’s a good sign for the future and getting through past these crazy times, but traffic is getting worse so that sucks. Shows still aren’t happening though, unfortunately. Hopefully soon!

It’s been a bit of a wild last year, how have you managed to pass time and stay sane during lockdown?

It has been. I was pretty bummed at first, but it ended up being a very productive year for me. I’ve recorded a ton of music this past year, and now am in a position to be constantly releasing fresh stuff all throughout 2021.

How positive are you feeling now we are in 2021?

Very. It’s my first year releasing music as HILTON, and it feels like the fresh start and freedom I needed. With each release I’ve been learning and evolving…as long as that trend continues, I think I’ll be good. I believe 2021 will be a much better year for the world as well, not that it could be much worse than 2020 haha

How has 2020  effected your mental health?

It was definitely an adjustment. A lot of things took some getting used to, but I’ve always been the type of person to adapt well. I have plenty of weaknesses haha but that’s definitely a strength I was lucky to have in 2020.

Whats your thoughts on UK Music?

It’s funny you ask that…as a US artist, I find myself getting really into a lot of UK artists. It’s interesting, you can’t always tell when someone is singing where they’re from, but when I see interviews of a lot of my favorite newer artists they happen to have a British accent haha. I love Harry Styles in particular, I think he’s killing it.

Whats one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?

“How would you describe your music?” Like I don’t know…go listen and you tell me haha

What was the most fun you have had on stage?

Definitely winning the Grand Rapids Battle of the Bands at Billy’s Lounge when I was 17. Was my junior year of high school, played in more or less a punk band with two of my best friends…killer time.

What was the worst experience on stage?

Probably with that same high school band. We got asked to play a charity event and do an hour long set but we only knew like 6 songs haha so we tried to learn a bunch of new ones week of and messed them all up bad…luckily there was only like 10 people in the audience.

Who would you like to work with on the circuit right now?

I think Dominic Fike is dope, and has a compatible style to mine. Bet we could make some cool shit.

What advice would you give someone going into the music industry?

Don’t. Haha I’m just playing…but it is way more work than you could possibly imagine, it will take longer than you thought, and you will not get rich overnight. I strongly urge people to deeply consider those things, and all the sacrifices they will have to make before “trying to make it”. If the passion truly outweighs those obstacles, then keep your head down, be true in your craft, work your ass off, and don’t you dare look up or slow down.

Whats your favourite song to play live and why?

I love playing my song ‘Bones’, which is the following single after ‘Demons’. I’ve never played it live with a band because I wrote it during quarantine, but it’s high energy even just on acoustic guitar so I imagine it’d be a fun one at a show..

How was the recording process given the various restrictions LA has been under of late?

Everything came to a stop in March of last year, including sessions. Which sucked because I was halfway through recording a few new songs. After about a month though everything picked back up…especially since it’s just normally myself and a co-producer in the room, we were able to proceed with caution.

What are your plans for the year ahead?

Like I mentioned earlier, I’ll be releasing material constantly. I have a bunch of new songs in the works, so who knows…that could end up being an EP. Really hoping things continue to progress and venues open back up soon…would be amazing to tour at some point this year.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

My brand new song ‘Demons’ is out now, so go check that out on Spotify, Apple Music, and anywhere else you’d like. I’ll be putting out a bunch of new videos, so subscribe to my YouTube if you wanna see those, and follow me on Instagram @hiltonallcaps to stay up to date with everything. I appreciate ya’ll listening to a bit of my story. And thanks for having me guys!
