Hiya mate, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide to start rapping?
Nothing really, it was just a hobby at first when I was in high school/college I wasn’t very good with written words but I could freestyle a lot, so I just spent my time freestyling for a while till I reverse engineered it and started to actually write words down to find my flow. I was about 18 when I realised I wanted to take it more seriously
It’s been a bit of a wild last year, how have you managed to pass time and stay sane during lockdown?
Yeah, it was wild but at the same time boring haha, I have just been making beats and draft beats for ideas, started to learn a bit of guitar too but I’m still not great at it but it’s coming along nicely, I’m hoping to include guitar in my songs when I finally learn a substantial amount about guitar playing. Oh yeah I’ve been on a lot of walks too
How positive are you feeling now we are in 2021?
Semi positive I guess, I really don’t have a clue what’s going on, to be honest, it’ll be great though when we can all go out drinking and gigging again. Hopefully, it’ll be the start of a new chapter.
How has 2020 effected your mental health?
Not gonna lie it’s taken quite a hit, but I’m just trying to take it day by day, even though I can make music 24/7, being in the same room for so long doing the same thing I eventually started to burn out a bit. It’s all good though I’ve got some good songs in the making
How are you feeling now the road map has been announced and live gigs can return?
I’m hoping it’s a safe one and they can stick with it. Can’t wait to get back out there, need to do a lot of rehearsals though before I do.
What advise would you give other rappers starting out?
Be yourself, don’t be fake. If you feel it say it and if you’re in it for the money you won’t last long, you have to have a proper passion for what you do. A Lot of people are going to tell you “no” but if you know what direction you’re going in and what you’re trying to say and come across as you don’t need to listen to the people who want to put in their two cents. Oh yeah and most importantly have fun.
Whats one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
I dont get interviewed often so im not sick of any questions……yet
What support is out there for new rappers in Leeds ?
I’m not sure in Leeds, I haven’t been there in ages. I come from a farm just outside skipton but I’ve been keeping up on the socials around leeds. There’s Pirate studios in Leeds which is pretty sick though.
Who is inspiring you at the minute on the Leeds scene?
On the leeds scene at the moment Precinct Phantom and Chills Myth are making some bangers, they’re a pretty sick duo, looking forward to what they bring out next
What useless talent do you have/ party trick?
I can wiggle my ears and flair my nostrils thats about it haha
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
I was in the Continental in Preston supporting FMA + 12 Gage, And it was a big stage with a big audience so it was very fun,I performed a song called “spoons” and I came outside after to have a smoke and everyone was chanting the song it was insane to me
What was the worst experience on stage?
I was performing in Burnley and this drunk woman came up and tried to grab the microphone next to me, I just stopped the gig until she left, proper made me mess up my lines up though haha it happens though
Best drink to have on stage?
Water…. Or gin
Who is the biggest named artist you have played with?
I remember one of my first gigs years ago I played alongside Dialect, he’s pretty sick with the bars.
Tell us a funny story from backstage?
Unfortunately I cant remember any haha
Who would you like to work with on the circuit right now?
Id love to work with Mike Skinner (The Streets) his storytelling is great.
Whats your biggest achievement as a Artist?
Getting my self produced songs onto BBC radio, it’s still a trip
Right now, whats pissing you of the most? (Cant say the virus 🙂
I’m currently suffering from a bit of writer’s block when it comes to lyrics, there is nothing to talk about at the moment but I’m slowly getting out of it I’ve got enough songs in the vault to keep me going for a bit so it’s not a big issue.
Whats your favourite song to play live and why?
Spoons, it’s got an easy hook that people can sing along to and it’s so energetic.
I hear you have a new single brewing, what can you tell us about it?
So the single I’ve just dropped is about the hospitality business. It was inspired by a lot of the things I hear on a daily basis from customers in the song. I think a lot of people who work in the hospitality industry will relate a lot.
How was the recording process given the various restrictions the UK has been under of late?
Pretty damn easy, I produce record and mix/master everything in my bedroom studio so it wasn’t difficult at all. When everything opens up again though i’ll be definitely visiting some other studios when its all settled though.
What are your plans for the year ahead
To finish off the music videos I started before lockdown and gigs gigs gigs
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
