Sports : The Championship So Far…. Promotion, Relegation, Table predictions. Is your team named?
We’re past half-way in the Sky Bet Championship 2018-19 season making it the perfect opportunity to review the teams performances and predict where each club will finish come the end of the season.
Prediction – 1st Automatic Promotion
After the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa, the promotion chances for Leeds have certainly increased. The performances have been outstanding so far with impressive victories over Norwich, Derby and Stoke.
On-form Kemar Roofe is the current leading goal-scorer for the club this season with 14 goals and 2 assists. Having won 16 matches, drawn 6 and lost 5, Leeds currently sit at the top of the championship and with the squad they have which oozes with quality, it shouldn’t be long before they’re back in the top flight of English football.
West Bromwich Albion
Prediction – 2nd Automatic Promotion
West Brom have been a really strong force in the Championship so far picking up points from huge wins, their biggest win was against QPR which turned out to be a 7-1 hammering from the home side.
They have the best goal difference in the championship so far scoring 55 goals and conceding 35 giving them a goal difference of 20.
With the talented squad that they have, paired with the excellent leadership of Darren Moore who has a 52% win percentage, this side should be joining Leeds in the automatic promotion places.
Prediction – 3rd Play-off Winner
Daniel Farke’s side have been flying high in the championship recently much to peoples surprise. Last season the canaries finished 14th however additions to the squad such as Finland striker Teemu Pukki, (who has scored 15 goals so far this season), has enabled them to push for promotion.
Norwich are also a side that like to leave it till the last minute “literally”, with the majority of their goals being scored in the second half around the latter stages of the match.
Prediction – 22nd Relegation
Bolton Wanderers are currently struggling in the league and currently sit in 23rd place. Tasked with difficulties on and off the pitch it wouldn’t be a surprise if Bolton were to be relegated.
According to the stats, Bolton are the lowest scoring side in the division and their win percentage is 19%, with only 5 wins and 7 draws in 27 matches. The extremely poor form and the financial situations are having a massive impact on the club, increasing the pressure from the fans. Can they hold on and Stay in the Championship for another season ?
Prediction – 23rd Relegation
After coming out of the back-end of the play-offs in the 2016-17 season , Reading have massively dipped in form. They finished 20th in the 2017-18 season so could they be about to meet their fate in the Championship ?
With the Royals only having won 5 matches in 27 games (which is a 19% win percentage) and failing to score in 10 out of their 27 matches throughout the championship, relegation is looking highly likely.
Although they have had some good performances (including the recent 2-0 win over Forrest), it probably won’t be enough to catapult them out of the relegation zone.
Prediction – 24th Relegation
Ipswich Town are currently trailing at the bottom of the league with 18 points in 27 games, unsurprisingly they have the worst defensive record this season.
With Martin Waghorn at Derby after leaving Ipswich in the summer, they seem to be lacking quality upfront. Can their string of new signings in the January transfer window help them survive relegation ?
